A local man has died during his buck’s night celebrations at a central Sydney hotel.
Police and paramedics say they attended a pub on George Street, Sydney, about 10.30pm last night after receiving reports a man had fallen down a stairwell.
The 26-year-old man, from Glenmore Park, was found lying unconscious at the bottom of the stairwell with severe head injuries.
Nine News named the man as Matthew Bell, and said that a number of friends with him on the bucks night witnessed the incident unfold.
Security staff and an off-duty police officer performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the man before he was taken by paramedics to St Vincent’s Hospital.
He died a short time later.
The Rocks Detectives are conducting inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
It’s understood the man, who had been celebrating his buck’s night with mates, was attempting to slide down a handrail between level three and two when he lost his balance and fell backwards to the ground.
A report will be prepared by police for the information of the NSW Coroner.
