Following on from the hugely successful ‘Rock Show’ and ‘Rock Show More’, Aussie rock icon Jon English is bringing his latest and greatest show, ‘Rock Revolution’ to the EVAN Theatre, Penrith Panthers.
Jon said his new show would be a “natural progression” from the ones he has toured in Penrith over the past few years.
“Last year’s ‘Rock Show’ dabbled between the music of 1965 to 1980 and ‘Rock Revolution’ is based on a theory of mine that music changes every 15 to 20 years,” he said.
“Music revolutions always start with a real ‘bang’ from some relatively obscure place, free from all the marketing and hype of the New Yorks, the Los Angeles’ and the Londons.
“It usually starts in places like Memphis, Tennessee; Liverpool, England or Seattle, Washington. It starts as an underground movement in those places and then takes over and that usually happens once in a generation.”
Like Jon’s last spectacular shows, ‘Rock Revolution’ features classic rock songs from the 60’s and 70’s, and an eight-piece cast of young multi-talented musicians and singers.
“The show this time is basically a lot more from my point of view with some different songs and some different members and it will have just as much fun and energy as the last time,” Jon said.
While on stage, Jon will be sharing his own personal stories about growing up and living through the various famous eras of music.
“The stories are my stories because I was a teenager and I was that age and I was around at that time,” Jon said.
“It’s not the Jon English life story by any stretch – I’m being representative of a generation.”
The line-up of songs from the ‘Rock Revolution’ is endless and includes hits from The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Meatloaf and David Bowie just to name a few.
Jon said it’s hard to narrow down his all-time favourites when there are so many definitive bands to choose from.
“It’s a funny one that. It’s like answering what’s your favourite movie or what’s your favourite song because you’ve got so many,” Jon said.
“With bands, if you ask anyone around my age who their favourite is, people will say ‘I love The Who, I like Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young’. Then someone will say to them, ‘What about The Beatles?’ But I think you have to put The Beatles in another category because they are that far above in terms of influence and recordings and everything that they just sit at the top on their own.”
You won’t want to miss this amazing night of rock ‘n’ roll. So take a trip with Jon English down memory lane and experience some fabulous music, lots of laughter and multi-talented musicians all wrapped into one unforgettable theatrical concert.
