Penrith is the new west – that’s what NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell declared at the launch of the ‘Penrith is Here’ brand earlier today.
“It is not good enough to know you are good… you have to make sure every one knows it too,” Mr O’Farrell told a crowd of Penrith’s business and community leaders.
“Penrith is more than just a place you drive through to get somewhere else now… it is a regional centre.”
Penrith City Council has taken a bold approach to putting Penrith people on the map with its new community brand, and Mr O’Farrell approved.
“They do things differently here in Penrith,” he said.
While 185,000 people live in the Penrith nearly 66 per cent of the workforce leaves everyday to work elsewhere.
“This time, spent on motorways and on public transport, is time away from families and the community,” said Penrith Mayor, Greg Davies.
“It’s time away from the great lifestyle people chose when they decided to live in Penrith.”
When the Council decided to revitalise Penrith’s brand last year, it began working with key local community groups and external audiences to identify the characteristics that make Penrith the place to live, learn, visit, work and invest in.
“[The new brand] talks boldly to business and investors, creating jobs for the people of Penrith. It’s about creating economic growth for the future and for today,” Cr Davies said.
The Premier said he hoped to replicate the Council’s confidence and competitiveness on a state level.
