Two youths have been charged after a stolen van was tracked through western Sydney overnight.
Just after midnight, officers from Mount Druitt Police Area Command were patrolling Bidwell, when they attempted to stop a Toyota Hiace van – which had been reported stolen from Toongabbie on April 23 – on Luxford Road.
The Toyota failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated, travelling towards Shalvey. At the intersection of Belmore Avenue, the van evaded road spikes and continued on Luxford Road. The pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns.
Shortly after, the Toyota was seen on Solander Road, Seven Hills, and with the assistance of PolAir was monitored as it travelled west on the Great Western Highway before exiting at Wallgrove Road and travelling through the suburbs of Eastern Creek, Minchinbury, Oxley Park, Kingswood, Cambridge Park, Werrington, Jordan Springs and Cranebrook.
The van travelled along Richmond Road where road spikes were successfully deployed near the intersection of Stoney Creek Road.
The damaged van continued through Marayong onto the Quakers Parkway before the vehicle stopped in Pearce Road at Quakers Hill, where two boys, aged 15 and 17, were arrested with the assistance of the Dog Unit.
Police will allege the van reached speeds of up to 150 km/h and was – at times – driven on the wrong side of the road and disobeying red traffic lights.
The pair were taken to Blacktown Police Station.
The younger boy was charged with ‘drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous’, ‘resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty’, ‘drive conveyance taken without consent of owner’, and ‘breach of bail’.
The older boy was charged with ‘be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner’, and breach of bail.
Both have been refused bail to appear at a children’s court today.
