Elderly Werrington man charged over historic alleged sexual assaults

A Werrington man has been charged over the historical alleged sexual assault of three women across suburbs in Sydney’s south and the Southern Highlands.

In October 2019, detectives from Nepean Police Area Command commenced an investigation after receiving reports of the alleged historical sexual abuse of three girls by a man known to them.

Following extensive inquiries, an 80-year-old man was arrested at a house on Lethbridge Avenue, Werrington, about 8.40am today.

He was taken to Penrith Police Station and charged with eight counts of ‘sexual assault indecent act with person under 16 years’, four counts of ‘sexual assault incite indecent act person under 16 years’, five counts of ‘carnal knowledge’, ‘attempt carnal knowledge’ and ‘common assault’.

Police will allege the offences occurred in Sutherland, Jannali, Gymea, Padstow and Mittagong between 1982 and 1983, upon three women, then aged between 10 and 17-years-old.

The man was refused bail and appeared before Penrith Local Court today, where he was formally bail refused to reappear in the same court on Friday, May 18.
