A man will face court today charged over the alleged serious assault of another man in 2015, after it was uncovered as part of ongoing investigations into alleged organised criminal activity across Sydney.

In November 2015, the Criminal Groups Squad’s Strike Force Raptor commenced an investigation into the activities of an organised criminal network operating across Sydney.

The investigation was expanded in 2016 to include detectives from the Homicide Squad and the Drug and Firearms Squad.

As part of the broader investigation, Strike Force Raptor has been conducting inquiries into the serious assault of a man at St Marys in August 2015.

Police will allege in court that the man was detained by a group of men at the rear of a restaurant at St Marys and seriously assaulted.

The man suffered multiple fractures to his hand, wrist, and arm, as well as a broken jaw, which later required surgery and the insertion of plates to be realigned.

Following extensive investigations, a 27-year-old man was arrested by Strike Force Raptor on Belmore Street, Burwood, and taken to Burwood Police Station.

The Constitution Hill man was charged with cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent.

He was refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court today.

Investigations into the assault are ongoing, and further arrests and charges are expected.
