Firefighters have rescued up to five people trapped on the second floor of a burning unit last night.
Fire crews were called to the Torton Place unit complex in Penrith just before 8pm where they found smoke issuing from a fire burning on the ground floor with persons trapped upstairs.
Firefighters quickly gained access to the unit, working to extinguish the fire and rescue the people upstairs.
Paramedics assessed a number of people for smoke inhalation and transported two to Nepean Hospital for further treatment.
The cause of the fire is being investigated along with temporary accommodation being arranged for the family.
