Pair arrested over robberies

Two men will face court tomorrow following the armed robbery of a restaurant in Kingswood and the attempted armed robbery of a newsagency in Cambridge Park.

Just before 10pm on Tuesday, two men entered a Chinese restaurant on Manning Street, Kingswood, both armed with knives.

The men, who had their faces covered, threatened staff and made off with cash.

No one was injured.

About 6.20am today, two men, who had their faces concealed, walked into a newsagency on Oxford Street, Cambridge Park.

One of the men was armed with a knife.

The pair was confronted by a customer before leaving in a vehicle empty-handed.

Police from St Marys Local Area Command were contacted regarding both robberies and commenced an investigation.

As a result of their inquiries, officers today arrested two men, aged 29 and 18, at a unit on Santley Crescent, Kingswood.

The pair was subsequently charged with robbery whilst armed with an offensive weapon and attempted robbery whilst armed with an offensive weapon.

They were refused bail to front Penrith Local Court tomorrow.
