Homicide Squad detectives have today arrested a man and a woman in relation to the death of a woman who was stabbed and set alight in a stairwell at Werrington earlier this year.

Emergency services were called to a fire at a unit block in Parkes Street, Werrington, about 4.30pm on April 21.

Inside a stairwell they found the body of Noleen Hayson Pal, 30, who had suffered a number of stab wounds and was also set alight.

The Homicide Squad and St Marys Local Area Command established Strike Force Crocker to investigate the woman’s death and have conducted extensive inquiries to date.

Just after 8am today, detectives arrested a 34-year-old woman and a 49-year-old man during a vehicle stop at Campsie.

The woman has been taken to Campsie Police Station, and the man to Burwood Police Station.

Detectives anticipate charging the woman with murder and the man with being an accessory before and after the fact to murder.

Police will allege all three people were known to each other.
