Funding for Centenary events

Remembering the ANZACs on April 25 each year is a tradition respected and revered by all Australians.

And so in preparation for the ANZAC Centenary in 2015, the Federal Government is running a Local Grants Program to help support communities with their celebratory and commemorative events.

This week, Lindsay MP Fiona Scott announced that the grants program has been expanded to help local residents take part in the occasion.

“The additional $25,000 means a total of $125,000 will now be available to establish and maintain ANZAC monuments and activities throughout Penrith and St Marys,” Ms Scott said.

“This funding will ensure the ANZAC spirit will continue to play an important role throughout the greater Penrith region for many years to come.”

A Committee of local representatives will review applications for the grants and determine how the money will be allocated.

Newly appointed member of the committee, Marilyn Stacey, Honorary President of the Penrith RSL Women’s Auxiliary Branch, said this funding represented a great opportunity.

“Each year I attend the ANZAC Morning Service and I am amazed to see how many young people and their young families attend. I thought that we would eventually see a decline in people attending however this has not been the case, which is fantastic,” she said.

Ms Scott said funding can only be provided to events and memorials relating to World War I. Visit www.anzaccentenary.gov.au.
