Plum loses locks for charity

Penrith Panthers hardman Nigel Plum has shaved off his golden locks in front of 30 preschoolers in Cranebrook today.

29-year-old Plum joined Penrith local Terrna Uru as she raised money for the Leukemia Foundation, as part of this year’s popular World’s Greatest Shave.

Plum and Mrs Uru went bald as the children from Sweetpeas Kindergarten & Long Daycare Centre watched on in amazement.

The kids have spent the past few weeks learning about children with Leukemia.

The 103kg monster prop even had a go at shaving Mrs Uru’s head himself but probably won’t be enrolling in a hairdressing apprenticeship post-footy.

Plum told the Weekender he quite liked his new look and hoped it would bring him more tries to add to his season’s tally of one.

“My head feels much lighter,” he said.

“I last shaved my head way back in 2004 for the very same event.”

Plum also presented Sweetpeas with a 2013 Panthers jersey signed by himself and his teammates. The school will auction off the signed jumper to raise further funds for the fight against Leukemia.
