She cheers her heart out during the rugby league season trying to spur on a Panthers victory, and now Caitlin Alderson needs us do the cheering for her.

Ms Alderson is in the running to become the Big League Cheerleader of the Year 2012 but needs Penrith’s support.

Ms Alderson was one of two girls from the Panthers chosen to compete in the competition where fans and the public vote to send one cheerleader through to the next level of competition.

“I was lucky enough to proceed to the top 16 and now I have fortunately made it to the final eight,” she said.

Although this is only her first year as a cheerleader for the Penrith Panthers, the 18-year-old dancer is proud to be a part of the community and loves to support the team at each home game.

“I feel very lucky to be representing the Penrith community and the Penrith Panthers,” she said.

“It is so rewarding to be a part of such a supportive area and I would like to thank Big League, the club, the Pantherettes, the community and all my family and friends for giving me this opportunity and getting me this far in the competition.”

The overall winner of the competition has the option to donate to a charity of their choice and if successful, Ms Alderson hopes to donate to CanTeen, an Australian organisation that helps to support young people living with cancer.

“Young cancer patients have experienced heartache well beyond what most can comprehend and I would like to contribute to this wonderful organisation to further empower the truly brave children and young adults that battle with this terrible disease every day,” she said.

A Penrith Panthers cheerleader has not been successful in winning the competition since 2000, when Amanda Flynn took home the prize, so to get behind Caitlin and our team, text CAITLIN to 19922556; SMS costs 55 cents including GST.

Voting lines open on August 23, 2012 at 12.01am and close on August 26, 2012 at 11.59pm.
