Penrith’s oldest bicycle store, Panther Cycles, is celebrating 40-years as a Penrith icon.

Established in 1974, the Henry Street store has for many years been the go-to for local residents for all their cycling needs, whether they are serious road or mountain bike enthusiasts or just everyday casual riders.

Brothers Dave and Andy Richardson are proud owners with a 20-year history at Panther Cycles.

“We did work experience here whilst at school 20 years ago and after leaving school, we bought the business and have been here ever since,” said owner, Dave.

“Having lived, ridden and worked in the area for so long, like all of our staff members, we have seen many changes in the area. Penrith is changing; people are getting out and being active, which is something we are supportive of.”

The team has seen a growth in the amount of people cycling in the area.

“We have the lakes and the river, which are perfect for families. We have kilometres of road and tracks that are perfect for recreational riders and road racing and in addition, Penrith is just minutes away from the Blue Mountains, which provides hours of fun for mountain bikers,” Dave said.

With such a variety of riders in the local area, who all have different needs and requests, the experience of the Panther Cycles team is of the utmost importance.

“We are all experienced riders ourselves and we genuinely love what we do. We are proud that over the years we have helped so many customers achieve their goals, right from world champions through to families wanting to go for a family ride,” Dave said..
