Set in the fictional British Midlands industrial town of ‘Brumley’, in 1912, just as the Titanic is due to sail, the play consists of three acts and runs the course of one tumultuous evening. The play begins as the bourgeois Birling family celebrate the engagement of the eldest daughter, Sheila, to the handsome and well-connected Gerald Croft.
The arrival of a mysterious police inspector interrupts this happy scene with unwelcome news that a young woman, recently destitute, has died in the infirmary. Through clever and unrelenting interrogation, the inspector unravels the part each family member has played in the young woman’s life and reveals how each character may be implicated in her death.
An Inspector Calls opens at Glenbrook Community Theatre on Friday 11 May, with further performances on the 12th, 18th and 19th May. Booking information can be found at glenbrookplayers.com.au or https://www.facebook.com/glenbrookplayers/
