Penrith’s extraordinary injury crisis has worsened with news this morning that forward Moses Leota will miss the next eight weeks after suffering a partial pectoral tear.

Leota, who has been enjoying his best year in first grade, suffered the injury during last Friday night’s game against the Cowboys in Bathurst.

The 22-year-old will not require surgery but won’t be back until at least round 16.

It is another major blow for Penrith who have almost half of their salary cap on the sideline.

Dylan Edwards, Josh Mansour, Waqa Blake, Sam McKendry, Tim Browne (retired), Corey Waddell, Trent Merrin and Nathan Cleary are all still on the injured list while Jack Hetherington will miss Friday night’s game against Newcastle through suspension.

Coach Anthony Griffin will name his team to play the Knights at 4pm this afternoon.
