A 53-year-old man has been hit with a hefty fine for failing to wear his prescription glasses while driving.

Gary Thomas Delaney appeared before Penrith Local Court on Wednesday where he was also convicted of mid-range drink driving.

The court heard Mr Delaney blew 0.146 and was found driving without his glasses during a random breath test after he attended a party in Penrith.

Magistrate Dorelle Pinch noted the serious bearing on public safety.

“Everyone expects you to be able to see at an appropriate level,” she said.

The defendant was disqualified from driving for six months, fined $750 for failing to comply with his licence conditions and handed a 18-month good behaviour bond.
