Four Penrith locals have arrived in Las Vegas to try their luck in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) competition, with an end prize of just over $1 million.

Competing against almost 7500 international players, Charlie Challita, Harding Richards, Malcolm Hall and Con Stergidis left for Sin City on Wednesday with the APL/888PL Team WSOP.

Beginning on June 5, the event will run for five days with one person claiming the million dollar prize.

“It will be great if I could stay in the game for at least one whole day or even two days,” Mr Stergidis said.

“I’m just going to do the best I can and stay in for as long as possible,” Mr Richards added.

Mr Stergidis has been waiting several months for his chance to play in the big league after winning his ticket at a tournament in August last year.

With the guys playing poker at least twice a week, they are looking forward to hopefully coming out on top in Vegas.

“I think work could perhaps be brushed aside for a little while if I won,” Mr Stergidis said.
