A 20-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man were driving along Mulgoa Road at Penrith about 12.15am today when they saw a white Mitsubishi following them.

Two shots were fired at their vehicle as they approached Evan and Smith Streets at South Penrith. They immediately drove to Penrith Police Station and reported the incident and a search began. Neither person was injured.

The Police air-wing, POLAIR, and the Dog Unit were called to assist with the search and a 33-year-old man was arrested about 90 minutes later.

He was taken by NSW Ambulance Paramedics to Nepean Hospital for treatment for a dog bite to his legs. The man, from Toukely, is now under police guard.

The driver, a 33-year-old man from Greystanes, is currently at Penrith Police Station.

A Mitsubishi Evo 8 has been seized for forensic examination.
