Penrith City Council has presented a cheque worth $1,500 to the Great Walk Foundation to support the ongoing fundraising of the organisation for local charities.

Now in its sixth year, the Great Walk Foundation has encouraged local residents to walk from Blaxland to Bathurst – a distance of 155 kilometres – to raise funds for locally based charities such as Great Community Transport, Nepean RDA, Lifestart, Sailability and Springwood Hospital Auxiliary.

Mark Mulock, one of the walkers from 2012, said that he is proud to be able to contribute to such fantastic organisations.

“Apart from the fact that our ageing bodies seem to be doing it much harder, we also seem to be growing the pie – we have now raised $120,000 for the walk in 2012 and Council’s donation will get us closer to the $130,000 mark,” he said.

Penrith Mayor, Mark Davies, congratulated the Foundation and said that he hopes Council’s support of their work continues to increase.
