Bin collection boosted over Christmas

Penrith City Council is helping to support residents’ waste sorting efforts this Christmas with five consecutive weekly waste pick-ups for all bins across the City on their normal collection day between December 17 and January 11 inclusive.

The extra weekly pick-ups will apply to red lidded and yellow lidded bins. This is in addition to your routine weekly green lidded bin collection service, which will continue as normal.

These temporary festive season pick ups will be effective in meeting Penrith households’ needs as Council recognises the greater amounts of waste and recycling produced around Christmas.

“Council is proud to support our community’s outstanding environmental responsibility; in particular their waste sorting efforts which see our environment and neighbourhoods reap long term benefits,” said Penrith Mayor, Mark Davies.

“Thanks to the Penrith community’s winning attitude we’re also in the running this month for a national Keep Australia Beautiful award for most sustainable City. It’s another golden opportunity for our residents to be recognised as leaders in sustainability.”

Nepean District Cricket Association Secretary Keith Hawkins said local cricket fields had never looked so good thanks to cost-effective local organic recycling.

“On behalf of our players, I’d like to thank residents for their composting efforts. We can be proud our fields are greener, healthier and safer thanks to the compost we’ve generated together,” Mr Hawkins said.

Councillor Davies said: “Remember to sign up for our free text message reminder service by emailing [email protected] with your name, address and mobile number so you can keep track of dates for extra collections, recycling drop off days and other waste service initiatives.”
