Tigers down Panthers

Penrith slumped to yet another loss in an NRL season to forget tonight, going down to Wests Tigers 26-18 at Campbelltown Stadium.

The Panthers fought hard but failed to take advantage of the weight of possession they enjoyed and the huge number of opportunities handed to them throughout the contest.

Ill-discipline was also a concern. The lowlight was an unforgivable error from Sam McKendry during the second half, giving away a penalty for an incorrect play-the-ball that would lead to a Tigers try.

There were danger signs for Penrith in the opening minutes of the match, with Robbie Farah crossing to open up a 6-0 lead. But Penrith responded, with Kevin Kingston scoring a great solo try to level the scores after 10 minutes.

The Tigers went ahead 10-6, but the Panthers again responded, this time through Josh Mansour who crossed to open up a 12-10 lead.

Chris Lawrence scored just before half-time to give the Tigers the lead at the break, but Penrith were in front again when Luke Walsh scored a controversial try to open up an 18-14 lead.

McKendry’s error gave the Tigers the invitation they needed to take the lead back again, while Chris Heighington scored in the dying minutes to wrap up the win.
