Penrith government and business leaders will be looking as far as the United States of America for inspiration in developing the area’s health industry.

Penrith City Council is hosting its inaugural City Talk 2012 on June 5, and Toby Compton, who is Business Development Advisor for the State of Tennessee, will be delivering the keynote speech.

Mr Compton has been asked by Penrith Business Alliance to talk about attracting global capital in the healthcare industry from his own experiences in Nashville.

The Nashville Healthcare Council in Tennessee has had unprecedented success in developing their healthcare and allied industries.

Despite the GFC, which has impacted on much of USA, the Nashville economy has continued to grow largely on the back of the significant investment in the health and allied industries.

The Nashville healthcare industry contributes an overall economic benefit of nearly $30 billion and more than 200,000 jobs to the local economy annually.

“It is hoped that there are good lessons to be learnt from the Nashville experience in growing our own Penrith Health and Education Precinct which has a vision to become one of Australia’s premier destinations for health, education, medical research and related industry over the next ten years,” said Penrith Business Alliance CEO, Bijai Kumar.

“As a result of Toby’s visit we also hope to build a new and mutually productive relationship between the City and the PBA and the Nashville Healthcare Council.”

Andrew Stoner, Deputy Premier of NSW, will also be in attendance.
